Every morning, a kookaburra comes to visit me. He sits on this chair outside. When I forget to leave him some food, he hops a little closer as if to remind me, “Hey, I’m here!”. Then other kookaburras start to join him.
I love watching them. I named this kookaburra “Kooku”. Even though he is a wild bird, he recognises my voice. When I call, he comes.
When I was young, in primary school in India, we learned the kookaburra song. There were no kookaburras in my country, but the song was so beautiful that it made me dream of seeing one. Thank you, God - not only did you let me see this bird, but I also found a friend in Kooku.
